Gore Place

About

Welcome to Gore Place!

Gore Place is the country seat of 7th Massachusetts Governor Christopher Gore and his wife Rebecca. Their 50 acre estate includes three historic buildings; the 1806 Gore Mansion, 1793 Carriage House, and 1835 Farm Manager's Cottage.

As Christopher used the estate as a working farm, we preserve the Leicester Longwool heritage sheep breed on the property, one of only a handful of farms to do so in New England. Stroll out gravel pathways and enjoy the scenic vistas from dawn to dusk. The property is used year round for private events (including weddings) and public programs including the annual Sheepshearing Festival , tours, Stargazing and Nature Identification Workshops, Carriage House Concerts, etc..

Volunteers are essential to bring these wonderful programs to the public. For a list of upcoming events, click on  our What's On page and contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteers@goreplace.org or call 781-894-2798.

Our dedicated staff and volunteers produce events for the public year round including our annual Sheepshearing Festival, Carriage House Concerts, Frightful Fridays storytelling and more. To learn about the museum, check out our Know Before You Go video or visit our website www.goreplace.org

Established as a museum in 1935 by preservation minded citizens, Gore Place Society's mission is to "preserve and promote the 1806 country estate of Christopher and Rebecca Gore as a unique community resource that tells the story of early 19th century American life."
